iCU2 Security and the Conficker Worm Threat
Tuesday, March 31, 2009 by Kevin AdairApril Fools' Day is here and the biggest virus threat in recent memory is upon us. It is called the Conficker Worm, set to go off April 1st. iCu2 is not affected by these types of threats. However, your computer may be vulnerable. So make sure your security programs and anti-virus program are up to date.
iCu2 does not access the internet the way a browser or an email client does. As with any program that can send files to another person, you do not want to accept a file from someone you do not know as a close friend. Any file you accept from someone on iCu2 may be infected. You never know what is on another user's machine. They may have other motives as well. Online "Romeos" are notorious for sending people Trojan viruses to gain access to machines and manipulate their victims.
'Conficker Virus may hit computers' on April Fools' day
Read the headlines of the Boston Herald Business/Technology section. Every network has spent some time on this topic. The Conficker Worm as it is known can control thousands and thousands of computers from a single location. One story claims the computer responsible for the worm can be traced back to mainland China. The conspiracy is set.
The easiest way to make sure you are safe from the alleged upcoming attack is to go to Windows Update and hit the Express update. It should install the proper Security Update.
“It’s definitely serious,” Kevin Haley, director of security response at Symantec, said of the virus thought to be embedded in millions of network computers across the globe.
Again, as an iCU2 user if you have your security up to date and do not answer strange email or accept files from strangers. You should be ok. Our chat rooms are not vulnerable to these types of infections. No matter if you are in a mature adult chat room or in the gay community chat. iCu2 is safe.
Please be assured that the iCu2 system is safe. The threat in the news today affects Pc's that are not protected from the worm. The entire iCu2 system is Linux based and is not vulnerable to this type of worm or virus.
Just a note to all of you that may be worried about tomorrow.
Thank you,
Kevin Adair
